We live in the area affected by hurricane Rita in 2005 and were displaced for almost a month and were unable to get mail, etc. Being responsible people, we called them from our location and informed them of our situation. They seemed very understanding and offered to put our account in deferrment until we got back home and get things situated. They set it for a period of 3 months and we were told that what the deferrment was was a plan where they defer the payment and then what we would have to do is pay a little extra every month until we got back to what would be current. We were never told that after that three month period, we would be reported as 3 months late and so on until we were paid up in full. The way it was presented to us was completely different than the actuality of the way it works. We had to fight with them and then finally we had to file 2 different complaints with the Better Business Bureau in order to get it resolved. As if having to endure a hurricane isn't bad enough, even people like us that had a perfect payment history- never late, anything- had to fight for what was right. We will never finance anything through this company again and we have told everyone we know about our problems with them. We are currently selling the house that we had this issue with but Ocwen definitely earned their bad reputation with us. After almost a year of fighting them to get it corrected, we are finally back to our good credit.
